DEEP SOULFUL HOUSE CHICAGO: CO-OP PRESENTS PROSUMER (OSTGUT TON – BERLIN) SAT MARCH 24
Mix- Prosumer – Louche Podcast – 21-10-2011
Mix- Prosumer – Prosumer (Ostgut Ton/Playhouse) – Special Wild Mix – October 2009

Some might take the fact that we haven’t done a party since last July as definitive proof (as if it were needed) that CO-OP is run by a couple of sun-fearing ex-pats who couldn’t possibly venture out over the summer months. However, we’d like to offer an alternative explanation for our tardiness – we don’t really like to do things for the sake of it. Its why we’re only up to our ninth showcase event in over two and a half years and also, quite probably, why we’ve been lucky enough to declare a decent number of those sell outs.
As for what’s next and whether it’ll be any good, you should probably decide, we’re a little biased. We’ll deliver a revered international headliner playing an extended set in an intimate venue on an impeccable sound-system, but then you knew that already – how the rest of this thing plays out is really up to you, dear Dancers. So join the CO-Operative after dark once more, as we welcome nothing less than a legendary figure from Berlin’s electronic underbelly to Sydney for the very first time – Panorama Bar resident, Ostgut Ton stalwart and all round lord of the dance Prosumer. For an extended set. In a sub-250 capacity basement. With a Klipsch system. We could also detail how those CO-OP DJ types will be warming things up impeccably for our esteemed guest but then you may note our lying voice and pick holes in the rest of our surely too good to be true claims, which wouldn’t be ideal.
While we’re hoping the aforementioned party fundamentals tick a good number of boxes for the heads, we’d also like to think word of what and how we’ve done before will see us welcoming along others just looking to shake it out in good company with a no-nonsense soundtrack, regardless of whether they can quote the track-length of every Playhouse B-side. Of course, if you can do that on the night, especially after a few drinks, you’ll be rewarded with some sort of shiny badge.
Our man Achim Brandenburg AKA Prosumer has been playing his own blend of House, Techno and far beyond since the late 90s, strongly influenced by the staples of Detroit, Chicago and New York but always open to the left-of-centre and forward-of-thought sounds that add a new level of intrigue and interest to something more traditional. Its this personal touch which has seen Prosumer reach such high regard with punters and peers alike as one of Panorama Bar’s key residents. No doubt he doesn’t give a fuck about polls, but for your reference he came in at #40 on RA’s Top 100 DJs countdown for 2011 and his second home Berghain/Panorama Bar made it to #6 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs countdown. He’s got pedigree, is what we’re getting at.
Our venue of choice for CO-OP’s ninth life is one we’ve used before, albeit under a different name – remember Motor City Drum Ensemble at The Vault, anyone? You know, the one where he locked his records in the hotel? Well, that’s where we’re headed, its just that its now known as One22. Its still a cosy basement in the heart of the city with reasonably priced drinks and a noticeable absence of Kings Cross-itis, but has been given a tune-up (system et al) for re-launch and is now attracting the best possible heat from Sydney’s clubbing fraternity with a solid weekly line-up of local and international talent.
As usual, Resident Advisor is your ticket to ride for our latest showcase so off you go. No, not that way, there, that’s it. Buy now or pay (more) later. An email to co_op_club@hotmail for limited discount issues may also pay dividends if dispatched in timely fashion. Then again, it may not, we’re all about the drama…

Boom Boom Says Rick ‘The Godson’ Wilhite (DETROIT) @ ONE22 Sat April 7th
Boom Boom is proud to announce the first party for 2012 – One of the leaders and selectors from Detroit – Rick “The Godson” Wilhite
http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?329997
In a city brimming with the best music innovators past and present, Rick is a prominent Detroit identity who has firmly influenced the revered musical spirit of the Motor City. His now closed record store Vibes, supplied the best of the best with the records that changed the way the world danced. Rick has worked alongside electronic music luminaries such as Juan Atkins and Derrick May and is the oft-forgot, but vital member of the 3 Chairs, with Marcellus Pittman, Theo Parrish and Kenny Dixon Jnr aka Moodymann.
Rick encompasses every facet of a true DJ that we admire and aspire to. A versatile music selector – with DJ sets including R & B, Hip Hop, Techno and his favoured House and Disco. A pioneering producer – with seminal releases on labels such as KDJ, Stilove4music and Rush Hour – and a long time party promoter. Rick has learned over his 24 year career in the music industry that it takes more than a few good records to create everything that a party needs to be.
Rick will be given the keys to One22 and we will let him play for as long as he wants – so expect something big! Boasting an amazing Klipsch Sound System coupled with Boom Boom E&S DJR400 Rotary Mixer this intimate 200 capacity venue is surely going to be the place to be!
Support from Boom Boom Resident Daniel Lupica and special guest Claire Morgan and Magda Bytnerowicz

EARLY RAVE, DEEP HOUSE, TECHNO: 808 State – Pacific 303 (RARE 303 RELEASE)
When it comes to earthy electronic music.. does it get finer than this by British electronic outfit 808 State.. really digging this 303 version of their signature tune Pacific.
A ‘Summer of Love’ warehouse classic originally released way back in 1989 & still as Deep and Soulful as electronic music will get, an absolute masterpiece of electronic music for mine.

(EVENT) DETROIT TECHNO, DEEP HOUSE: Anthony “Shake” Shakir Live in Sydney
Tickets $20+BF: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?287280
Detroit producer Anthony “Shake” Shakir is one of the more under recognized, underappreciated names in American techno. A bedroom producer since 1981, Shake had an important role in helping shape the early Motor City sound associated with artists such as Juan Atkins/Model 500 and Derrick May. He worked with May and Carl Craig as a producer, writer, or engineer on several early tracks on Metroplex, and worked in management and A&R for the label (as well, he’s often joked, as being the janitor) during its formative years. His first solo material appeared on Virgin’s seminal Techno Sound of Detroit compilation, under the name Sequence 10. Known as something of a techno purist, Shake has distanced himself from the European scene many of his colleagues have turned to for support (this accounts somewhat for his continuing obscurity), and his music is stylistically closer to second wave artists such as Mike Banks and Claude Young – hard, stripped-down tracks which owe equally to techno, electro, hip-hop, and funk.
Shake’s visibility and reputation have risen in more recent years as a result of his Frictional and Puzzlebox labels, the latter of which he formed in 1996 with fellow Detroit electro/techno producer Keith Tucker (formerly of Aux 88). Releasing a series of records both solo and in combination (usually under the name Da Sampla), Shake and Tucker’s Puzzlebox has, along with Underground Resistance and Guidance, become one of the more coveted sources of straight-up, no-bones Detroit techno.
Thanks to Rush Hour Records – the “Shake” has had a new lease on life and with the amazing compliation – “Frictionalism” earlier in 2010, this sky rocketed Shakir back into the scene.
This is Anthony first time in Australia and we are very excited to be able to show case his talents. Anthony amazing production plus his amazing energy and DJ skills behind the decks will make this a very special night.
Along side Anthony we have Joe Stanley and Daniel Lupica.

Podcast #2 - Mark Murphy Classic Chicago “JACKin’ Podcast
Oct 2011
Our second podcast is a mix of the cornerstone production moments in House music put together by one of the undeniable monarchs of Electronic music in Sydney, DJ Mark Murphy. The DJ’s DJ who has been making his name playing everything from Acid House, Electro, Disco, Techno & Chicago House for as long as I can remember.
This mix was originally promo he put together for a Chicago House music club night called “JACK”, which he co-presented by with DJ Magda. It is a journey through some classic releases that shaped the HOUSE & TECHNO sounds from an era where those cats at Trax Records were working hard to put out some of the classic analogue acid cuts on recycled vinyl and Frankie was the man dropping legendry spiritual lessons on dancefloors.
It features classic cuts such as; Frankie Knuckles – Baby Wants To Ride, Ralph Rosario – You Used To Hold Me, Hercules – 7 ways to Jack, Adonis – Do It Properly/No Way Back, Marshall Jefferson – Ride The Rhythm & House Music, Nitro Deluxe – Let’s Get Brutal, Sterling Void & Paris Brightledge- It’s all right, Frankie Knuckles feat Jamie Principle – Your Love
